The Queen Liliuokalani Long Distance Canoe Race has a unique tradition — a post-race torchlight parade. The race itself is long and difficult. In the evening after the race, paddlers are tired and (in many cases) tipsy. It seems nutty to hand a few hundred kerosene-soaked sticks to this crowd, but that’s what they do.
