Made entirely of wood with minimal use of nails, the Sanctuary of Truth is best described as a visionary environment: part art installation, religious shrine and cultural monument. Constructed in four wings dedicated to Thai, Khmer, Chinese and Indian religious iconography. The ornate temple-like complex was conceived by the late Lek Viriyaphant, a Thai billionaire. The building continues to support hand-hewn woodworking skills as it’s been under construction since 1981 and is expected to be completed around 2050.

Every part of the 105m-tall building is covered with wood carvings of Hindu and Buddhist gods and goddesses – an artistic consolidation of centuries of religious myths under one unifying roof.
